African Bee-Eater
Project type
Poem
Date
May, 2017
I'd seen a bird;
a Southern Carmine;
(But only as a painting...)
And I marveled at where he'd been.
But then I wondered
"Would he know me
By the color of my skin?"
"What a striking little thing,"
I thought.
"And so beautifully arrayed!"
But then I wondered
"Would I ever get to see the sun
Settle upon his plain?"
"What a crown! What colouration!"
I said.
"Oh... what darling little feet!"
But then I wondered
"Would I ever know or see his burrow
where the Kasai and Sankuru rivers meet?"
"What a glory! What splendor!"
(I melted)
"What a beauty to behold!"
But then I wondered
"Africa; my home?"
It's glorious too...
(At least that's what I am told.)
